In the near future the cure for aging will eliminate the age-related changes to minimize the likelihood of developing diseases and to improve the quality of life of people of Mature age,» — said the scientist.This week, the American mathematics published an article in the journal PNAS in which they suggested that aging is fundamentally impossible to stop the removal of «aged» cells and starting the process of competition between cells will inevitably lead to the development of cancer, and the fight against potential cancer cells will deprive the body’s ability to rejuvenate itself.
According to Fedichev, this idea is not quite accurately reflects what already exists in nature, and ignores the existence of a certain class of beings whose body is actually aging or growing old with infinitesimal speed.
«Our colleagues correctly note that competition between cells of a multicellular organism leads to the inevitable destruction of tissues and death. Simultaneously, the authors note that there are examples of animals with negligible senescence in the body which over time there is no age-related physiological changes,» continues the researcher.
As noted Fedichev, the authors of the idea of «inevitable» aging refer to one of the articles from his research group, in which Russian scientists describe how different genes work «normal» animals and people, and almost «immortal» creatures like naked mole rats or some species of sea urchins.
Modeling how changes in the work of their genes over time, Russian mathematicians have discovered that virtually any set of genes is inherently unstable, and that the development of this instability can be one of the main reasons why almost all organisms on earth grow old and die. The diggers and hedgehogs this process starts much later than in other animals, which explains why they live so long.
«Our American colleagues quote one of our publications, emphasizing that genetic regulatory mechanisms may work fine for an unlimited time, if the damage is in the genes promptly corrected at the cellular level. In this case, it is theoretically possible to create such conditions in which cells do not fail,» continues Fedichev.
According to American scientists, such conditions create, in principle, not possible as the genes responsible for repairing DNA, too, will break down over time, which will lead to the development of cancer and the exponential growth of the chance of dying in old age. Russian mathematics fundamentally disagree with this postulate.
«You need to understand that the protective capabilities of the organism are not limited to cellular systems to repair damage. In his article, Nelson and Mazel mentioned the immune system and genes that suppress the growth of tumors, which, according to them, «can significantly slow down the aging process, perhaps even to negligible levels,» — stressed mathematician.
As noted Fedichev, these words, as well as the lack of specific data on that, how fast will age the body in such a situation, suggests that the authors of the idea of «inevitable aging» admit the possibility of the existence of a situation in which the cellular structure of the body stabiliziruemost in time. In other words, aging is missing, in fact, refute their own thesis.
«It should be understood that this version of «frozen aging» does not guarantee immortality. There are animals that do not age practically from nature: for example, naked mole rats and bats. They are now actively studied, and it is evident that these «forever young» organisms develop serious illness and eventually death,» — said Fedichev.
On the other hand, the Russian mathematician emphasizes that in these animals, despite the fact that their life is finite, not the typical the signs of death and aging – they do not begin to get sick and die more often in old age. Therefore, the creation of tools that would translate the human body in such mode of operation is one of the most promising options for combating aging. Tools such as the scientist believes, can be created in the near future, including in Russia.
