Stage of the project

For over thirty years, Joseph M. Cohen has been collecting art. His quest has been successful principally because of a single-mindedness of endeavor and his quiet confidence. Those qualities are the same ones that served him so well in his chosen profession. He presided over the Wall Street investment firm Cowen  Company, an investment banking and capital market firm that provided distinctive service to a multitude of institutions and corporate and private investors. As Chairman, he was responsible for over 1,600 employees, including 150 principals, located in tenoffices over two continents. The firms growth during the thirty-year period from the seventies until the sale of its assets to SociГ©tГ© GГ©nГ©rale in 1998 was significant. Under his leadership, the company was transformed from a small boutique firm into a leading international financial services and investment banking company.   Mr. Cohen has always found time for philanthropic activities. He is the President Emeritus of Citymeals-on-Wheels and currently serves as Vice Chair; a Director of the Glaucoma Foundation; an Emeritus Trustee of The Jackson Laboratory, a leading genetics research and non-profit mouse production facility; on the Board of New York Eye and Ear infirmary, a member of the Chairmans Council, Stielglitz Society and Visiting Committee of the Metropolitan Museum of Art; Collectors Committee of the National Gallery; member of the Photography Committee at the Museum of Modern Art, Whitney, Guggenheim, Natural History, member of the Arts Council at the Aperture Foundation.
