The firm also provides debt capital in the form of senior debt, mezzanine debt, government-guaranteed lending, business capital for investments and loans in underserved areas, and equity capital to real estate development firms and real estate projects. It primarily invests in Connecticut, Alabama, Colorado, Florida, Hawaii, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Missouri, Maine, Oregon, New York, Texas, Wisconsin, Mississippi, and Washington, D.C. in the United States. The firm seeks to make an initial investment between $0.5 million and $10 million in companies with sales value less than 5 million. It can make larger and further investments based on pre-set milestones or subsequent financing events and prefers to co invest with other investment firms in the form of equity or deeply subordinated debt, to support bank lending. Occasionally, smaller investments are made depending on the stage of the investment. The firm typically invests in preferred equity securities and current or preferred debt instruments, which are either convertible or issued with warrants. It seeks to invest in states and communities that are underserved by traditional sources of risk capital and focuses on state and federal economic development initiatives that bring businesses, technologies and jobs to communities that need them.
