The Irish BioIndustry Association (IBIA) is the leading representative body for the Biotechnology Industry in Ireland, has over 50 member companies and is affiliated to IBEC. The main aim of IBIA is to promote, support and encourage the further development of the multinational and indigenous biotech sector in Ireland. IBIA achieves this by building and maintaining excellent relations and a positive profile with Government, public agencies, other representative organisations, international bodies and patient groups. IBIA works closely with the Government, their agencies (Enterprise Ireland & IDA) and the research community to help build a strong and thriving biotech sector in this country. It is a full time member of both BIO (US) and EUROPABIO, and has been active on a number of fronts including biotech patents, regulations on plant biotechnolgy and promoting research to the industry. IBIA has also participated in the the develpment of the Enterprise Ireland Biotech Strategy. IBIA was also an active participant in the Technology foresight exercise which gave rise to the establishment of Science Foundation Ireland (SFI), with consequent prioritisation of biotech. In 2006 BioIreland was hosted by the Irish BioIndustry Association. This hugely successful event profiled developments in biotechnology around the world as well as focusing on our growing indigenious sector.
